Jump for Joy!

It’s no secret I have a thing for jumping models in various phases of the jump and in all scales...

Besides my painted and unpainted Traditional Resins, there are micros!  Some make fantastic jumpers, others are more hunter type, and some could go cross country.  I had a NAN Champ with a freejumping entry (proud moment!) and even have coon jumping mules.  Some are taking off, others landing, and others in bascule, at the peak of their arc.  I love the scopey look and tuck of some and the amazing sculptured details in others.  Eyeing the naked herd and realize I have much to work on!

Some mini resins and a custom (others have yet to be photographed, Wee Jay and Flitwick need clothes, Orion is in transit!)...

Tinies in varied scales

Well, some of the little do ods and products are closer to 1:6 or for bigger dolls, but they are still
Cute representations of the real deals!  Not everything fits into our model Scales.

Generally things I’d use for models fall into 1:9 or 1:12 (Traditional or Classic “dollhouse” size) or for Little Bit/Curio Models, or smaller yet 1:32 and 1:64 for Stablemate and Micro!

Check out the Micro Stall and Traditional-ish Maine Coon Cat, modeling one of Dreamflite’s new SM Western saddle trees (Anna Helt)!

Mystery Halloween kid with a skateboard and variety of products.  Time to start thinking of Fall
Miniatures already...I started participating in photo scene challenges with a fun but spooky setup in SM scale.  Looking forward to Blab’s Spooky Swap as well as a Halloween live show!

Ideas are in the works...depends on what the rest of this summer brings!

Photo Shoot!

Since the heat broke, my little studio stage is a lot more comfortable, so I took advantage between weekend drives and errands to shoot some resin and CM minis...

I do love playing with all my options in background, footings, fences, and props.  There are more in all Scales, but halter pics for a Start!  I am also doing this to organize live show strings and document.

A few faces from the weekend:

Have a Great Week!

Pupsicles!

Well, the beasties went from Hot Dawgs to Cool Pooches with their frozen treats in the yard.  It may not be the steaming hot we had before, but more is in store, and it did get up there today.

Lick lick slurp!
Phaser kept his to the doormat and concrete...

Aww good old man!

Princess Cola took hers to a shaded spot in the grass and went to town on the icy goodness!

I’ll hide behind this weed with my frosty treat!

Dog Days of Summer!

Well, the ancient philosophy involving astronomy holds true - in Canis Major, the Dog Star Sirius does rise with the sun this time of year.  July 3-August 11 are labeled as the Dog Days of summer with their extra heat.  The thing is, it’s the earth’s tilt on it’s axis that creates this, NOT the Stars!

Still, MY Star Dogs deserve a cool treat!  Phaser and Cola will enjoy their Pupsicles in the yard this weekend when they mercury rises again.

Plastic cups, variety of treats, chicken broth to mix with water and freeze!

I have also added other goodies in the past...dog-friendly fruits and vegetables, canned food, even small toys to discover in the glacier!

Chillin’ in the freezer after this photo!

HAY!  I mean, hey!  HORSEFOLK - use a small bucket (ice cream/sherbet tubs with lids work well),  add water, a little Apple Juice, and treats like carrots and apples to make a cool block for your pony!  I have even used a little molasses or peanut butter or honey.

NOTE: beware of Xylitol/dangerous sweeteners!  Use only treats/products safe for your critters!

Happy concocting!  Will get pics of the beasties enjoying their treats in the summer heat.

Customizing “vintage style”!

I am aware August will host another customizing event that involves vintage style/technique, which I a huge fan of!  I also have project ideas in mind for the MEPSA makeover...  I am not active in FaceBook groups, but Blab and fellow hobbyists are support and this blog helps
Document it!  So now I find this...
A decent older Live Classic Arab mare as a body...

Do I dare delve into Arab RRH hand painted in acrylics???  Or do I consider the San Domingo body or other possibilities?  I do love me some G1 Stablemates...   Decisions, decisions...

New Pony!!!

Who doesn’t love acquiring a new herd member?!?  My latest is one of Sarah Tregay’s creations - a SM pastelled CM shown as a Haflinger/Arab cross.  Adorable!!

Oh Boy Leroy!

Hmm I seem to have a thing for ponies.  My show string is in greater need of Drafters and certain other breeds...I have shifted to more CM and AR over time, and especially mini scales, but will never give up on OF.  So many lovely models!!!  Have you changed your collecting focus over time?  Do you tend to have a “specialty” or focus on certain breeds or types?  I collect many artists and a healthy mix of breeds, colors, and poses.  My OF herd has stayed mostly to conga molds, more rare or collectible pieces, and my many SMs.

Factory Oops/Cull/Unfinished

Mysteries of goof models are interesting, but waxing poetic about these misfits may be even moreso.

Breyers have left the factory with unpainted eyes, missing details, or oddities in their Finishwork.  Some collectors delight in the variation of such finds.  I’ve had several factory “raw” or unpainted models, a couple pieces with random paint spray tests, and other unique stories.  This little
gal remained with me as an example but also because she is a great memory of a year I went to BF on a major shoestring budget (ah, college years and getting started!).  I really couldn’t afford extravagances beyond the planned celebration model so kept my wishlist simple - low cost and tiny items.  She was the interesting little oddity I found for a few bucks in room sales.  Her rescue made my trip!  My main focus was fun with friends and a getaway, which is really what BreyerFest is (or should be!) all about.  I remember the tiny pleasures of that trip vividly - humor/traveling with friends and the smell of the gas station.  The coolness of a lemon ice on my tongue in the hot covered arena.

April Fool!

All that story and memory!  THIS is what we love about models and our hobby friends and journey!
Perhaps it is me who is different or odd in that regard.  I have a tape-masked model and models with unground seams, and the poor little horses with unpainted eyes, hooves, mane/tail, lack of shading or other flaw can still be perfect.  Perfect in that they are interesting and special uniques.  In their own right, the culls and oops models have stories behind them.  If only they could tell us how they managed to escape the factory and quality control!

None of us is a finished work.  We all have flaws.  We all have a story to tell and memories.  THIS is why certain models speak to us in that state.  What stories “behind the model” do YOU have?

I hope another BF will be in my near future.  I like to think I could still have fun despite STILL being on a small budget!  I tend to keep collecting goals very specific these days, but tiny, weird finds are always a treasure!

Hobby Humor (part 2)

More Memes...these are of my own doing!  Most were shared on Blab, but here’s one we all relate to:

(Note - this was made during the pre-fantasy day’s of NAMHSA)

Ah, the 80’s...

I hear the Queen herself has models!

Hobby Humor (part 1)

Cartoons, memes, and other humor are necessary in scale modeling for me.  If I am able to keep things lighthearted and keep an ability to laugh with plastic ponies, it keeps a healthy perspective.  I shall Start with some works by others...

Sande is awesome!
