Ph-ph-ph-ph-Phases!

(And Ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-ch-Changes!)
I mentioned the varied tail versions of my beloved #40 Lady Phase and my preference to focus on the original short.  As I slog through photo documentation of the conga collection, I am surprised at how many specials were done on the swish, and they are gorgeous.  I was lucky to get the Connoisseur Hope N Glory as well as some other rarities for my collection.

At any rate, wanted to share historic photos of the singer Lynn Anderson with the real Lady Phase and honor the late Chris Hess for creating a stellar likeness.  He was really unique in his work-from-photos sculpting and moldmaking talent!

Also can’t leave out my buddy.  My Phaser is named for his breeder’s Star Trek theme, but also for my Breyer mold obsession - he is here reminding me of his Gentleman Phaseness. Haha!

Itty bitty randomness

Now I have to regroup and start organizing various projects.  I continue to work on photos and create sporadically.  Several models I’d like to get finished!  Sometimes these things happen out of the blue...like this little shelf I threw together to hold mini Breyer boxes...

Wow, look at this hot mess of tiny creatures?  No idea where they’ll end up.  Various projects, I’d guess.  My avant-garde art voice is whispering ideas...

But I DO need to complete some half-finished horses/critters for myself!  A Grulla mustang, Appy mule, and yellow lab come to mind...

Will see what I’m able to accomplish in the coming weeks...

Collecting Tack: Lazy H halters!

Madelyne Hinman creates teeny tiny SM scale halters - what’s not to love?
I got several beautiful halters and leads and highly recommend them!

Lazyhcustomtack.weebly.com is her website, and I adore the delicate details.  I can handle one buckle. Lovely colors and hardware.  Definitely cool!

Viva La Vintage: Pope/Bouras friends...

I am proud to own vintage CMs by the late, great Judy Renee Pope (Nite Watch Farms) and prolific  Liz Bouras (Amarna) as well as collaborative pieces.  The following are not my models (in fact, saw some showing in the current VCMEC series!) or Photos, rather they are mementos of my friend’s past
collection (again - contact me if these models are yours!) and so are “old friends” to me...
Fence photos by Gerhardt I believe.  Enjoy the eye candy!!

Tiny introduction

I am excited to add a couple more Sara micros to the tiny herd!  These are train scale minis, and I like these sculpts  as well as her Finishwork in this miniscule scale!

This is Spyrytfyre Sunshine Superman

and this is Spyrytfyre Cadbury

I’ve also been working on tiny scale landscapes & photography, which is BIG fun with tiny things!

Have a safe and happy Memorial Day!

May Medallion Madness!

I did it!  Completed my Medallion before the end of the month...this is the Jen Kroll head turned Arabian with snowflake, so a wintry theme.  I’ve dubbed him “Chill”.

Very fun journey and experimented with a new dapple technique and display method.
I appreciate the encouragement and tips - all very helpful!

May Medallion Madness “Chill”

Dapple Gray is my favorite horse color, and quite suitable for the cooler tones of Winter theme...

And on display stand!

MMM is all about the artistic journey and enjoyment of process, just as much as it is community support and learning no matter the outcome.  I am proud to be part of another hobby art event!

The Many Phases of Lady...

I conga the Lady Phase mold and have a fairly complete collection, including unpainted, variations, and a test.  Some are “Unobtainium”, being extremely limited runs, like Oakley or auction pieces/volunteer models.  She has seen many special runs, limited editions, and regular runs over the decades, along with mold change to different tail styles (I have some long and swish but prefer the older shorter tail).

Mother Lode - Deco Run!  I was thrilled to get my solid gold buckskin.  There were also very limited pinto and appy patterns.  Absolutely beautiful and the end of an era with revisiting short tail!

Some collectors apparently dislike her sleepy eye and lack of defined forelock (the mold is suffering!).  She has been described as “older style” compared to contemporary body type, but I see it as correct to the Quarter Horse standard (newer doesn’t mean better, folks...and true older styles  in breeds should be studied carefully). She serves well for many stock breeds ands can host a rainbow of coat colors.  All molds have their faults and virtues, and she is no exception.

The Lady Phase can also serve as fantastic basis for customizing as she has no extreme musculature and can develop from standing pose to some movement.

Vintage CM Lady Phases...and check out the ones from MEPSA this year!!!!

When it comes to traditional model stock mares, she is a fine specimen.  I do like and own other model stock horses, including the Stone ISH.  I will revisit and document some releases as I explore the many Phases of Lady.

Viva la Vintage: from CM to AR

Celebrating these older pieces (usually pre-2000 defines this sector in the hobby) has always been a treat.  I live seeing the beautiful uniques that revolutionized our model passions.  It was the talented remakes who had vision and shared their sculptures and realistic paint jobs, often with haired manes and tails.  That era them gave birth to our earlier Artist resin pieces, cast as small runs.

Moody Minuet - Cristal au Plomb

I can’t help but smile at the madness of it all, displayed in these gorgeous one-of-a-kind artworks that defined the next steps of our hobby.  New technologies are coming into play as well, with boundaries being crushed and allowing imagination more freedom all the time!

RAS Shazam, R/R/H Classic foal by Rae Ann Sneathen (‘90’s)

Wonder if we will gradually add older pieces to vintage category as the decades roll on, and if we will also see the older resins get their turn in the limelight...

In the Works...

Aside from various model projects, there has been propmaking, Pony finishing, prepwork, and photography.  More work on May Medallion Madness Arab:

Getting towards the end of the month too quickly!!!  I know I can finish, but still work to be done!

Naming and breed research has been fun, with several nice references collected along the way.  Documenting the herd is a process.  Rainy days and chill have made things rough.  Here’s hoping for more warmth and sunshine ahead.  CHEERS!

Viva la Vintage: Western Edition!

I have said it before -  love me some vintage customs!  Thinking about getting into more photo showing and preparing for that with all models.  Still, looking through my old show pics is a hoot!

Many are by artists or former owners and it’s amazing to see how these old guys got around!  I was pleased and proud to attend VCMEC last year and had a blast!  Would love to get to A Good Vintage someday as well!

Adore the realism and amazing artistry...here are a few of my jewels...

Zips Dixie Pine by Jamie Coughlin
This Quarter Horse has some really fun pics!

My beloved Spider Ice by Laura Rockmaker

Spidey is one of my all time favorites!  I was able to get Reserve Champs on her in performance at NAN and in halter for MEPSA!  She is also a very versatile standing model who was very well known in the 80’s.

And Dunsational by Liz Bouras/Amarna

I Top Tenned at an early NAN with this guy in a Native American costume I created and have since sold.  Very cool piece!

Many other artists and vintage R/R/H to celebrate later!

Viva La Vintage! Still Beautiful.

So many cool oldies.  Some of them still hold their own in today’s competition - truly a testament to their quality.  Even those that have had damage or aren’t up to par with today’s materials and techniques still have a lot of charm and nostalgia.  I feel these works of art should be treasured!

Sara’s New Pony

So we have been doing art challenges and creating various models and such for each other.  I work slowly.  I am proud to have finished the Haflinger/Gretel in a deep burgundy chestnut for her!

The colorway she chose was that of Black Eyed Susan done as a special on the Fell pony mold.  Beautiful Rich Red and Dark with chestnut m/t...gorgeous!  I enjoyed creating her and learned a few things along the way.  I think she will be called Ember...

Off to her new home...hope she does ya proud, Sara!  Have a great week everyone.

Weekend, Spring flowers

I grew up with Lily of the Valley outside my bedroom window - its delicate scent reminds me of carefree childhood days and Spring.

I found this fake substitute to enjoy with my Easter decor...

Then these arrived!  I also saw and smelled the neighborhood blooming lilacs.

Happy weekend!
