Dog Days of Summer!

Well, the ancient philosophy involving astronomy holds true - in Canis Major, the Dog Star Sirius does rise with the sun this time of year.  July 3-August 11 are labeled as the Dog Days of summer with their extra heat.  The thing is, it’s the earth’s tilt on it’s axis that creates this, NOT the Stars!

Still, MY Star Dogs deserve a cool treat!  Phaser and Cola will enjoy their Pupsicles in the yard this weekend when they mercury rises again.

Plastic cups, variety of treats, chicken broth to mix with water and freeze!

I have also added other goodies in the past...dog-friendly fruits and vegetables, canned food, even small toys to discover in the glacier!

HAY!  I mean, hey!  HORSEFOLK - use a small bucket (ice cream/sherbet tubs with lids work well),  add water, a little Apple Juice, and treats like carrots and apples to make a cool block for your pony!  I have even used a little molasses or peanut butter or honey.

NOTE: beware of Xylitol/dangerous sweeteners!  Use only treats/products safe for your critters!
