Breed Assignment

Selecting a breed for a model depends on its physical characteristics, gait, color, and markings.  Many ideas or combinations suit any given model but breed standards and genetics must be studied.  Understanding how animals are out together helps make sense of the terminology.  Basic anatomy charts teach parts of the animal.  Gender characteristics count as well - from build and musculature to
an example of a stallion’s cresty neck.  Some trial and error is necessary in modeldom, but here are some examples....

Copperfox Connemara Pony

Selection: German Riding Pony
I think this describes the model fairly accurately!

“Deutsche Reitpony”
GRP - German Riding Pony

“Combination of Warmblood movement and talent with Pony character, intelligence, and charm”
Developed 40 years ago as a larger competition pony mount for children
Athletic, with large, elastic stride and correct “horse-like” movement - rhythmic, expressive gaits that drive from the hindquarters.
Characteristics include pronounced withers and a long croup, small head with clean throatlatch, large eyes and small ears, with a long, well-set neck.  The German Riding Pony is known for its pleasant manner and friendly disposition as a “miniature Warmblood”!

Many stock breeds have options based on their conformation and color.  Not always QH, Appy, or Paint!  I try Australian Stock horse, Canadian cutter, Colorado rangerbred, or other Stock breeds...
Shows well as a POA (Pony of the Americas) Gelding

Foals are another ball of wax!
Here we have light Breed done on the Cl. Arab foal but buckskin color
Characteristics of refined head/face, light leggy build and possible high tailset, elegant neck
My choice?  Morab Filly for this little lady!

I am reading up on black Merens ponies

What breeds have you been researching?
